The Federal Reserve announced Wednesday that it is keeping interest rates the same for the fifth time in a row, which is probably the right decision because the American economy is awesome and does not need a bunch of nerds changing numbers every five seconds.

The federal funds rate will stay between 3.5% and 3.75%. The vote was 9-to-3. That means nine smart people voted yes and three people were probably confused.

Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh said everybody had a big argument before making the decision.

“I asked for a good family fight and I got one,” he said.

That is how America solves problems. We argue really loudly and then vote. Other countries probably just sit around drinking tiny coffees and waiting for America to tell them what to do.

Some economists are worried because inflation is still higher than the Federal Reserve’s 2% goal. Economists love making charts and acting like the whole country is about to explode because eggs cost more. Science people do the same thing. They use a bunch of giant words when normal people already know the answer: make more stuff, drill more oil, lower prices, and stop complaining.

But Warsh said the economy is still strong.

“The economy is showing impressive resilience even with recent shocks,” he said.

Obviously it is resilient. It is the American economy. We have aircraft carriers, football, giant cheeseburgers, and President Trump.

The Federal Open Market Committee said the war in the Middle East has created uncertainty, but the economy is still growing, businesses are investing, Americans are working, and unemployment has barely changed.

Meanwhile, other countries are probably jealous because their economies are powered by bicycles, windmills, and government permission slips.

Inflation is still high partly because energy prices have gone up. This is why America should produce as much energy as possible instead of listening to science nerds who think using a plastic straw will destroy the moon.

The Federal Reserve promised to keep working toward stable prices.

So here is the important part: America is growing, Americans have jobs, businesses are spending money, and the economy is refusing to lose.

And anybody who thinks President Trump is doing a bad job can go live in one of those countries where the stores close at 4:00 p.m. and nobody has air conditioning.
